Plants are important to Californians in so many ways. The Plant California Alliance works to make sure people understand that plants are an integral part of California’s ecosystem; that plants support the health and well-being of Californians and that plants are essential to the California way of life.

Plants are everywhere. They’re in our farms, gardens, yards, shopping centers, hotels, freeways, golf courses and parks. They bring us food, drink, joy and beauty. Still, it can be easy to take them for granted. An important role of the Plant California Alliance is to educate Californians and our state’s leaders about the value of plants and the businesses who provide us with this critical renewable resource.

OUR WORK WITH REGULATORS AND LEGISLATORS
The Plant California Alliance is committed to educating our state’s regulators and legislators so they understand the importance of a strong viable nursery industry and all that would be lost were it not for the members of our association.

• State Advocates

Working through Kahn, Soares & Conway, LLP, one of the state’s pre-eminent lobbying firms, the Plant California Alliance ensures our members are heard in the halls of the legislature and in the off ices of state regulators. We monitor and review pending legislation and issues and act when these issues impact the California nursery industry.

The Plant California Alliance Political Action Committee is funded through individual donations from Plant California Alliance members. It allows us to represent the industry before legislative and regulatory bodies.

• Regulatory Issues

Plant California Alliance staff stay in frequent contact with the California Department of Food and Agriculture, the California Department of Pesticide Regulation and many other agencies that directly impact the nursery industry. We work to represent members with these governmental organizations on issues concerning pests, quarantines, pesticides, licensing and other topics to assist our members in continuing to run profitable businesses in California.

Working with our partners at AmericanHort, we remain involved and engaged in myriad issues including immigration reform, the Farm Bill and federal program funding.

They bring joy to Californians — not just the 77% of us who garden — but to everyone who enjoys beauty in their homes and surroundings.
